New Nissan LEAF test drive in Paris - Day 2

This time with the whole family, we headed to Marais, in the center of Paris

With my cap, French taxi driver style, in the Bus Lane ...

La Smaritaine - closed for renovation -

Les Bouquinistes

Chatelet

You have to be twice more careful in the bus lane, with all the bicycles, especially Velib users not always used to cycling ...

Mairie de Paris, of of our favorite charging spot

and an Electric DIY motorcycle conversion !

Rare enough, I took some detailed pictures of the unusual conversion

Motor toothed belt transmission to the chain

Dual charger :-) - like in the Model S or the new LEAF -

So now, we have to plug into the regular 220V outlet, using the LEAF EVSE that is in the backpack

What's this yellow label ? Well it says: "Never use and extension cord": Oh really ? What about my 3m extension cord when I plug in in the street and 10m extension cord in the parking; Not a problem after 2.5 years of use

Guess what, because it is too short, so I have to back up and I am parked over one scooter spot

Still, too short, and without closing this lid, no power :-(

The new EVSE J1772 plug is different BTW, looks cheaper

We finally have to move to the other spot ...

and plug in

and after 10mn, we are charging (that's why I have a 3m extension cord attached to my EVSE, always)

We can now enjoy a little walk in the Marais ...

One of the new Hybrid buses - still diesel, but less -

EVs allowed in the Bus Lane in Paris !

Yesterday, stuck in traffic with the LEAF, I decided to use the bus lane on a small portion of boulevard Sebastopol in Paris ... I usually never do this since I got caught by a camera several years ago with the Prius and discovered the automated ticket sent to my home and  90 EUR fee to pay :-(

I heard about EVs getting access to the bus lane which is a political decision that should be taken soon by the new major of Paris, Anne Hidalgo - at least she promised this during her campaign which is taking place right now -

Pulled over by a police officer waiting at the next red light :-( I thought "that's it, I am getting a ticket, and now I heard it is 135 EUR ! -; So I tried to play dumb, and said right away "I am driving an EV, I am allowed in the bus lane", twice

She then checked my driver's license and registration, everything was in order, and told me: "Mister, you don't have to tell me you are driving an EV, I can stop whoever I want, for a routine check", and added "Yes, as a non polluting vehicle, you are allowed in the Bus Lane" :-)

I was amazed at what I just heard, from the mouth of a Police Officer !
So I learned right there that I can use the Bus Lane, at least in Paris :-)
This is great news I think  !  :-)

New Nissan LEAF Test Drive in Paris

Yesterday, my son Clement and I went for an afternoon test drive of the New LEAF lended to by for the week end by Nissan West Europe ...

Leaving from our parking in Boulogne

Unplug test with the J1772 lock on

Black Inside

Battery gage in %

Bird view 4 cam is an awesome feature, but only available at extra low speed

My Charging Equipment for LEAF and Vectrix over the last 2.5 years

The heat is on but is using very little power :-)

Eiffel Tower

Pont Alexandre III

Place de Clichy, and a very good British vehicle for the city, with a lot of smoke

Montmartre

Let's go up the hill
Sign says: "Paris Respire"

Stuck in Montmartre touristic crowd

Sacré Coeur

Place du Tertre behind

Again, usefull 4 cam view at low speed, to see tourists feet distance from the wheels

Beaubourg / Centre Pompidou

Chatelet / Les Halles

Stuck in traffic, and at one point I decided to use the BUS lane .... got pulled over and eventually got no ticket since a "non polluting vehicle" can use it ! I learned something from this police officer and will use them now :-)

Did I mention I got the 6kW dual charger version ? - like in a Model S -

And we finally lended next to Mairie du 3eme arrondissement, where the Autolib allows charging upfront, easier for a LEAF - but I took my J1772 extension cable in the trunk anyways -

Selfie

Café near Marché des Enfants Rouges

Phone booth

Nice place to hang out

Cafe Creme

Fashion designer / Store

/ Cafe too

Back to our LEAF, we realized it had not ben charging at all ... I forgot to turn off the charge program ... oh well

But we got billed anyways ... so it is not based on charging only but also swipping your badge on the charging station lid - it is a bit special because it is the third party EV charging station here, for scooters also, so that might explain -

LEAF allowed in the BUS LANE !

Place de la Republique

and we will use this Bus Lane a lot from Republique to Opera, on the way back

Porte Saint Martin

Cops

in the Bus Lane still

A little stop at K-Mart, a Korean market that carries Japanese food, and we took some fresh fish for TeMaki; LED lights for the ceilling

Palais de Tokyo - in Paris -

Tour Eiffel by night, nice

and we are back in Boulogne ...
