[DIY ESS Kit] New comment on My LiFePO4 ESS Blog

Last night I got a second message on my DIY ESS blog - diyesskit.blogspot.com - from a person in Germany - I guess - who is interested in my 5kWh DIY ESS - Energy Storage System -
I am happy to see that people, who already have solar installed, can be looking into Energy Storage and find my solution interesting :-)

I am very interested in the DIY ESS.
In my house there are two PV solar systems and I draw now on the import and export.

This Linux-Daemon can provides the "going power to the grid" as web service or any other service.

A Smart Electric Drive car completes my equipment.

Is it possible to use your ESS with my infrastructure? You already know, wass there will be the first kit?

(The Power Management System (PMS) - the heart of the ESS - only + the documentation to integrate all the other components)

Hi Nico,

Thanks for your message, I am happy to see that some people who already have solar are interested in my Storage Solution !

My DIY ESS can works with any installation, because it is based on its own Wattson energy monitor (to detect used power, generated power and net power) to trigger charge or generation (Wattson is easy to install)

I am finishing my first Control Board (= PMS (Power Management System) ) and will offer, after some more testing shared on my blog, a Kit made of the Arduino Leonardo board, flashed with my program, and a very detailled step by step documentation to build your own control board)

I will keep you posted on this

How can electric cars be charged with electricity from wind power and give power back to the grid ?

Smart grids

How can electric cars be charged with electricity from wind power and give power back to the grid? It's all about "smart grids", i.e. smart grid that can handle large fluctuations in the grid that comes with renewable energy such as wind turbines. In the case of charging the electric vehicles, it is interesting to see how electricity is transmitted from the network to the vehicle, and there are different strategies and work is under way to define standards in the field. In Test Site Sweden we are working with the automotive and power industries to test and validate the charging interfaces.

Interactive Smart Grid Technology Demonstrators

The continued work with Smart Charging systems at ANL led to the development of interactive displays that demonstrated the benefits of smart charging and smart grid as well as the vehicle to grid interfaces present in such systems. Two generations of the interactive smart grid display was developed, the first one is shown below and was demonstrated at the Technology Transfer Meeting May 11th in Gothenburg and at the Electric Vehicle Symposium short after.

The second generation of the display was developed by ANL for the Bright Green Expo.

Demonstration of a Smart Charge application for mobile phones

The demonstration was developed by TSS and Consat Engineering AB to show how managing charging could be performed using a mobile phone. The demonstration is available as a flash – movie and shows how the driver can reserve a park and charge spot and also manage the charge process. A screen shot from the demonstration is shown.




Smart Grid Technology explained

As our attention turns to new cars that run partially or completely on electricity, how can we redesign our electric grid to not only handle the new load, but make electricity cheap and efficient for everyone? Argonne engineer Ted Bohn explains a model of a "smart grid" that gives consumers the power to choose their own prices and sources of electricity.

In order to test and validate the charging of EVs we have developed the ChargeAlyzor which is a combination of a charging station and a oscilloscope. By this you can very accurately measure and monitor the voltage and current feed into the vehicle.

They did not talk about lighting ... but about water saving, insulation from the inside, etc
