DIY ESS - Fan holes drilled & spinning test

A bit noisy, all this drilling, but it is done !

First: markings



Second: small holes drilling (2.5mm, easier)

Third: bigger holes (7mm)

A little test with a 12V AGM battery: it blows well, enough to egt all the hot air out when charging or discharging I think; And it is very quiet :-) with or without the doors closed

Two extra holes to put screws to hold the shelf, otherwise it just falls (!)

I bent a little bit the base of the second shelf and put it on top of the bottom metal sheet

Low Cost Coil Economyzer Test for Tyco Kilovac EV200A1ANA

I am still in search of an economizer for my new Tyco Kilovac EV200A1ANA


Last night, I tested different resistor values along with this 4700uF capacitor - I got for my Grid Tie Inverter repair previously - and found that the simple economizer described in this DIY Electric Car thread


seems to work . I could not find a resistor that works so I used this air dryer resistive wire again - alreday used on my mini bottom balancer - and cut a piece that was 10Ohms;


Closing the circuit bypassing the economizer, the relay closes and is using 3,5A

With the economizer, the contactor is closing and only 1A is going through the circuit - instead of 3,5A with no economizer -   


1A at 12V = 12W

I will have to try with 20Ohms and see if what it does ... The idea is to leave the relay closed using minimum current, thus minimum power

NEDAP - PowerRouter to use Lithium-ion batteries in 2013

Along with the release of their lastest 4.0 software version, NEDAP announced they will be using Lithium-ion (we do not know the exact chemistry) batteries for their Energy Storage Sytem called PowerRouter, in sometime in 2013






It had been based on Lead Acid / AGM Batteries since its creation and this move seams to be logical since we all know that lead acid life is not that good in terms of cycles and energy density. The move to Li-ion is a good thing, provided that no weird BMS stuff is deteriorating the cells ...

ESS + Wattson Anywhere = Real Time Follow up of Generated Power at Home

Now with Wattson Anywhere I can keep track of my ESS Generation Anytime & Anywhere on Any device ! For me, this is really cool ...


My LiFePO4 BESPSS = Battery Energy Storage & Power Supply System stores 4kWh of energy and pushes it back into my home grid adjusting its output automatically, thanks to Wattson color codes, to keep the usage (purchased from my utility company EDF) as low as possible

Later on, this will be much improved when my solar panels are connected to my home grid: I will then store free solar energy during the day, and feed it back to my home appliances as soon as the sun is down or when the overall home power usage is high

Back in october, when I still had these Mottcells cells (see picture above) on my BESPSS, the generation was pretty close to the usage (see graph below)

My ESS with Lead AGM Batteries

I am now testing my ESS (Energy Storage System) with big (and heavy) lead AGM Yuasa 12V batteries. I have had them for few years now as they were used for my small solar storage setup upstairs
They are exact twins: 65Ah 12V Yuasa AGM NP65-12I (23kg, mostly used in RVs I think) purchased new
Simply wiring them in series, I get a 24V source to power my BESPSS and that is what I did last night:



I am using this 100A breaker in between, breaking the pack in two in case of a problem



Now I have to install the ESS Control Board, on top is fine

and not too far from the Grid Tie Inverters stack


All wired up and ready for testing ...

I close the breaker and start the Control Board: it is simply working fine, and Wattson is already green :-) and negative

and stays right above 0W

I did not test this new set up very long, but will do more testing this week end
I am then charging each battery with a 12V lead acid battery charger, a good one: Mascot from Norway, feeding 2.7A to the battery in bulk mode
