Let's test this New J1772 Extension Cable to Charge our LEAF at an Autolib Station

Now that we have received this J1772 Extension Cable, we took it down to the parking to put it in the LEAF trunk, its new home ...

He was coming to the Tesla Store with me anyways





When we got there, I thought, let's try it right here, between our wall mounted EVSE, and the LEAF => works like a charm :-)


and charges the LEAF - after turning OFF the charge program -



Remember my wall mounted second original EVSE, well it has been charging our LEAF for almost 2.5 years now ...

Back in Paris, the Tesla Store is actually in Gennevilliers, close to Saint Ouen where I used to work, outside Paris, but in the relatively close suburb

So here we are, at one of our favorite charging locations, in Marais, behind Hotel de Ville, and one spot out of two is taken by a Renault Twizy, the other one, by a Bluecar / Autolib

Guess what, we just had to go 2 spots ahead and parked at the Autolib station :-), not a problem anymore with our new cable !

J1772 Extension Cable arrives from Tucson - Unboxing ...

The cable ordered a week ago arrived last thursday, right on time for a trial this week and; as you probably already know, it is the solution I chose to be able to Charge from Autolib stations in Paris ...

LEAF Charging at Autolib Stations - I finally ordered a J1772 extensioncable from Tucsonev.com

After looking for 2 weeks, I finally went back to my first idea and ordered a J1772 Extension Cable, from TucsonEV.com




Made by a person building EVs, attending Jack Rickard's EVCCON, it should be good

It looks like a quality strong build, with good components and these are not cheap: the plug, outlet, cable rated for 30A ...

Measures 22 feet long, 22 x 30cm = 6.6m, perfect from the end of the LEAF to the front charge port, and has the J1772 hole for the padlock (perfect)

I will plug the Autolib J1772 plug into one end and plug the other end into the LEAF charge port, with one padlock on each, nobody is going to unplug me now !  :-)

Not cheap, but in Euros it comes to right under 290, and it is about the only spending I had for the LEAF in 2 years of use, so it's OK

This morning, I discovered that Inside EVs, one of the best Electric Vehicle blog to me, has mentioned few of my posts and pictures about charging the LEAF at Autolib stations in Paris

Wallbox installed in my parking for LEAF & Vectrix

Here is an overview of my "Wallbox" that I installed in my underground parking in december 2011, few days after I got my LEAF delivered

I purchased a second standard Nissan EVSE from eBay and mounted it onto the wall close to the front end of the LEAF 

A 10 meters 16A extension cord is used to connect the electric panel in the back of the parking spot to the front EVSE

The charge cable with the J1772 plug is rolled around a hook screwed into the wall at hand level to be able to reach it easily

The Vectrix extension cord is just sitting on top of this wall hook

I use the round / loop shaped head of this hook to hang the J1772 plug with its hook 

The EVSE is secureley mounted on the wall using 4 screws and the extension cord is simply plugged into it

and plugged into the electric panel sockets 

I had this independant "waterproof" electric panel installed on the back of my parking spot with a 30mA differential circuit breaker, a 20A circuit breaker, and 3 sockets / outlets backk in december 2009 to start charging my Prius pluggin (I had nstalled an Enginer PHEV  kit by then)
Since a dedicated power line had to be created for me, I had ERDF install an individual power meter in the building electric technical room (located in the parking), and an electrician installed a 60 meters line leading to this panel on my parking spot.

I wanted 3 outlets to be able to charge several EVs at the same time and it was a good idea because I am now plugging in the Vectrix and the LEAF
I also added a kill-a-watt equivalent meter for each line: I reset them when I plug in and check them when I unplug to see how much energy (in kWh) has been used for charging :-)

So this is my "Wallbox" ...
I have been charging the LEAF like at night for the last 9 months without any problem, and the Vectrix for  two years now
