Bolloré Launches Bluecub Carsharing Service in Bordeaux, France

On 9 January, the Bolloré Group officially launched its third carsharing scheme called Bluecub in Bordeaux, France. The French city is home to roughly 250,000 inhabitants.

The service is based on Paris’ Autolib concept, just like BlueLy in Lyon. The same Bluecars with up to 250 km of range (~ 150 miles) are used, as are the same charging stations.

Bluecub begins with 90 cars and 40 charging stations on which users can start or end their share and 200 spots, but next year the program should reach 200 cars, 80 charging stations and 400 spots.

According to some media reports, the service is fully funded by Bolloré Group, which invested about €20M and will pay €230 for each space occupied annually to the city. At 400 spots, this pay out should be over €90,000.

Renault ZOE : Battery Pack Rental lowered to 49 EUR per month

Renault announced a new rental option of the ZOE battery pack at 49EUR for 5,000km on a 36 month contract

I think more people could soon switch to EV with the ZOE since the minimum monthly rental of 79EUR was maybe too high and they would anyways drive less per year than with a regular ICE car.

London Chooses Bollore for its Charging Stations

PARIS--After Paris, Bollore SA's (BOL.FR) electric car charging stations are coming to London.

The French industrial group said it will manage as of next summer London's electric car sharing network, 'Source London,' launched by London Mayor Boris Johnson in May 2011.

Bollore aims to increase London's network of e-car charging pods to 6,000 by 2018 from 1,400 currently, Transport for London said in a statement Thursday.

No financial details of the deal were disclosed.

Bollore's U.K. unit IER will also be in charge of managing subscriptions to the car sharing scheme.

In Paris, Bollore launched the Autolib electric car scheme in 2011, which now counts over 40,000 active subscribers.

New - Bottom Balancer Rental : 19.90€ / week - Why buy and own one when you need it only once ?

After building my DIY ESS, I realized that my DIY Bottom Balancer was not being used anymore; Of course, Bottom Balancing of individual LiFePO4 cells has to be performed only once before connecting the cells into the desired voltage string for use - before the first charge actually -

Same thing, if you want to build an ESS, convert your Vectrix from NiMH to LiFePO4 - many do that themselves -, or any other LiFePO4 based project, you will need to go through this step - see why below -

You will do the Bottom Balancing of all your cells and then, never gain ... So why buy and own an expensive piece of equipment for nothing ?

That is why I decided to provide a new service: The Bottom Balancer Rental, for 19.90€ / week, excluding shipping period, so you have a full week of use of it, plenty of time to empty your cells, then return the device to me

Why is Bottom Balancing mandatory ?

Read : LiFePO4 Battery Charging Method - Don't Ruin your Expensive Cells !

Bottom Balancing the DIY ESS CALB CA180FI Cells

Does it work ?

Yes, I have used this device on 3 different LiFePO4 Battery packs, with 2 different cells brands

How do I use it ?

I will provide a PDF documentation by email to the persons renting it

Interested ?

NB: Shipping costs not included

NB: To prevent problems, I will charge an extra 100 EUR as a security deposit, refunded when the Bottom Balancer comes back to me

New Rate : Autolib = 10€/month

Once again Autolib is lowering the Parisian EV rental rates to attract more customers; Received today an email from them with this picture, and if I can remember, it was 140 EUR for a year, so this is like a 20 EUR reduction for a year, almost 15% off, not bad ...

NEW 2013 LEAF Pricing down to 17,290 EUR in France with Battery Pack Rental

Announced in Oslo, Norway, recently, this is the - good  - news of the day: The Nissan LEAF price tag drops to 17,290 EUR in France - after government incentive of 7,000 EUR - with the New battery pack rental option - New too -, and no CHAdeMO plug and no CARWINGS

It is half the price of the original LEAF (the one I have and paid 32,000 EUR after 5,000 EUR incentive) ... but it's ok, I got it among the first ones and more than a year and a half ago, so ...

Here are the 3 levels of trim

and the Battery pack rental plans

Autolib - First two electric rental cars arrived in Saint Ouen

These two cars arrived today at this Saint Ouen Autolib rental station :

Brand new & shiny sidewalk:

The car is always plugged in when parked, and the user/customer has to plug it back in otherwise the rental period continues (a good idea); This away the cars are always topped off and ready to go:

A closer look at the J1772 connector used on many cars around the world:

First time I see this sign on the hood: It says " Pininfarina "(the famous Italian designer), " bluecar " (the name of this car model from Bollore (the maker) ), " La Ville Respire " means " The City is Breathing "

Nice little car in the end:

Velib & Autolib: Paris Bike And EV-Sharing Programs

A good video about Velib & Autolib

Before Autolib, there was Velib, Paris' Bike Rental Service

Here we are, again close to where I work, in Saint-Ouen, to take a close look at Paris & surrounding cities Bike Rental Service called Velib.

First the name Velib stands for Velo (Bicycle) + Liberte (Liberty) and is a contraction of these two words meaning "The Liberty Bike" which is kind of nice I think

The city of Paris started it all in 2007 and JC Decaux a major advertising company is providing all the bikes & maintenance service, against some free advertising spots in the city; Others cities around Paris also joined the mouvement and it is now a big network of stations that prooved to be very usefull.

In the following pictures you can see a typical station of Velib, where bikes are locked waiting on the sidewalk, ready to go onto the street, using an RFid transport card (also used for Metro & Bus) to be swipped on top of each anchor point. If you don't have this card, you just go to the main unit and using a credit card rent a bike with a temporary ticket for half an hour (free) , one hour (1 EUR) , an hour and a half (3 EUR) or more (each half hour after the first hour adds 4 EUR)

The idea here is to use a bike to go somewhere (and not using a car or taxi) and leave it a a station close to where you arrive, not to keep it all day long, otherwise it would cost you a lot !

Nissan LEAF now available at Rental Car company Europcar in France

Nissan and Europcar, the leading car hire company in Europe, announced last month that Nissan LEAF, the award-winning 100% electric car, will be available for short term hire in two of the world’s busiest capitals: London and Paris.  From February, the 2011 World and European Car of The Year will be available for hire bringing the LEAF to a wider audience.

In France, the LEAF will is available in Paris @ Orly Airport, @ Paris Porte-Maillot (close to Neuilly / La Défense), @ Paris Gare de Lyon (TGV rail station) and in Lyon @ Saint-Exupéry Airport.

“There are two distinct reasons for joining forces with Europcar to introduce Nissan LEAF to the short term rental market in these two busy cities,” said Guillaume Cartier, Vice President for Sales Operations at Nissan International SA. “The first is obvious: with its absence of tailpipe emissions and an outstanding driving pleasure, the Nissan LEAF is the perfect car for the inner city. The second is for drivers currently unsure whether an EV is suitable for their needs. By renting a Nissan LEAF and living with it in real world conditions they can evaluate the car in their own time,” he added.
The Nissan LEAF has a homologated range of 110 miles (175km), which is more than 90% of UK commuters drive in a day.
“Europcar has long believed in electric vehicles as a sustainable means of mobility and is committed to enabling early adoption of this type of vehicle. We are proud to partner with Nissan to facilitate expansion of electric vehicles and provide our customers with the greenest possible mobility solutions” said Rafael Girona, Chief Operating Officer of Europcar.
Although the Nissan LEAF is as easy to drive as a conventional car, every customer hiring a LEAF will be given a face-to-face handover by a Europcar representative who has been fully trained on the car and its workings.
For Londoners, this will be a particularly important development as Mayor, Boris Johnson, aims to make London the electric car capital of Europe.

In order to make hiring the LEAF even simpler for customers, Europcar will recharge it completely free of charge, even waiving the standard service fee usually made for vehicle refuelling. For total peace of mind, customers can call a Nissan Hotline with any queries they might have about the vehicle, plus, at the end of the hire every customer will be surveyed by Europcar with feedback used to help shape future generations of Nissan electric vehicles.
Ken McCall, Managing Director, Europcar UK Group said: “Hiring a Nissan LEAF could be the ideal option for motorists keen to reduce their fuel costs and avoid congestion charges. At the forefront of electric vehicle technology, it fits perfectly with our philosophy of pioneering sustainable car hire solutions, giving customers a real choice when it comes to car hire.”
The pilot scheme, which will initially run for three months, forms a Definitive Agreement between the two companies, and follows a Memorandum of Understanding in which both organisations undertook to investigate ways of jointly promoting the concept of emission-free motoring.
Success of this scheme could potentially see it widened to other cities in France and Great Britain, as well as other countries in Europe.
